Daejeon has been selected to host the 2029 Invictus Games, marking the first time an Asian country will stage the event.

South Korea's veterans ministry announced on July 20 that Daejeon was unanimously chosen by the Invictus Games Foundation board to host the 2029 event. The city beat Aalborg in Denmark and San Diego in the United States.

The foundation praised South Korea's preparedness after an on-site inspection in February, an application in May and a presentation in London in June. The games are expected to draw around 3,000 people, including 550 athletes from 26 countries and 1,100 family members.

The Invictus Games, founded by Britain's Prince Harry in 2014, is an international sports competition for wounded, injured and sick service members. It has previously been held only in North America, Europe and Australia.
