대한민국 국가보훈부는 7월 20일 대전이 영국 인빅터스 게임 재단 이사회에서 만장일치로 2029년 대회 개최지로 결정됐다고 밝혔다. 대전은 덴마크 올보르와 미국 샌디에이고를 제쳤다.
재단은 2월 현장 실사, 5월 신청서 제출, 6월 런던 발표 등 준비 과정에서 한국의 준비 수준을 높이 평가했다. 대회는 2029년 약 550명의 선수와 1천100명의 가족 등 3천 명이 참가할 것으로 예상된다.
인빅터스 게임은 2014년 영국 해리 왕자가 설립한 부상 군인 대상 국제 스포츠 대회다. 지금까지 북미, 유럽, 호주에서만 열렸다.
