On April 21, Walt Disney Imagineering submitted a Notice of Commencement to the Orange County Comptroller’s Office for work at 2060 Avenue of the Stars, the location of Spaceship Earth in EPCOT. The permit specifies installing signage, with Kentavo listed as the contractor. This firm has handled similar signage projects recently at attractions like “it’s a small world” and Aloha Isle in Magic Kingdom Park, as well as “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Walt Disney World Resort provided no further details on the plans. Spaceship Earth offers guests a slow-moving journey through the history of human innovation. The 43-year-old attraction was set for an overhaul ahead of the resort’s 50th anniversary in 2021, but those plans were postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The involvement of Walt Disney Imagineering stands out, as the team typically handles permits for major projects or changes visible to guests, unlike routine maintenance filed by the Facility Assets Management team. The permit remains valid for one year and may relate to upcoming events, including the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival starting in August or the International Festival of the Holidays.
