The visit comes amid heightened global uncertainty from the ongoing Middle East crisis and pending issues between Seoul and Washington. These include South Korea's US$350 billion investment pledge to the United States and U.S. restrictions on intelligence sharing about North Korea.
Trump Jr. previously visited South Korea in April last year for a two-day trip at the invitation of Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin. He held closed-door meetings with top Korean business leaders, including Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan, to discuss partnerships in shipbuilding, defense, and energy sectors.
During this trip, Trump Jr. plans to attend a concert on Wednesday marking the release of the debut album by Chung's wife, flutist Han Jee-hee, retail industry sources said. Chung is known for his ties to Trump Jr., having been invited to the president's Mar-a-Lago estate and attending the inauguration early last year.
