Kuivat talvet ja keväät vähentävät edelleen hyttyskantoja Ruotsissa. Valtion eläinlääkintälaitoksen tutkijat ennustavat jälleen kautta, jolloin hyttysiä on poikkeuksellisen vähän.

Valtion eläinlääkintälaitoksen tutkija Anders Lindström toteaa, että maan kosteus on erittäin alhainen monissa osissa maata. Tämä johtaa siihen, että kesällä 2026 hyttysiä on huomattavasti vähemmän kuin normaalisti.

Kaksi edellistä kesää ovat osoittaneet saman mallin kuivien jaksojen jälkeen. Vuosi 2024 oli sen sijaan hyttysrikas kesä, mikä johti viiden miljoonan kruunun ylimääräisiin valtionavustuksiin torjuntatoimenpiteitä varten.

Hallitus on nyt myöntänyt laitokselle lisäksi viisi miljoonaa kruunua pohjoiseen siirtyvien uusien hyttyslajien seurantaan. Painopiste on lajeissa, jotka voivat levittää muun muassa Länsi-Niilin kuumetta. Lindström huomauttaa, että leudommat talvet suosivat näitä lajeja maan kuivuudesta huolimatta.
