All 90 Hong Kong lawmakers are scheduled to travel to Beijing from July 19 to 25 for a national affairs study visit. The trip marks the Legislative Council’s first group journey to the capital since the 1997 handover. Activities will include seminars, visits to key authorities and tours of the tech sector.
The visit was outlined in a paper submitted for discussion at the House Committee meeting on May 22. Each lawmaker is expected to pay around HK$15,600, covering an economy round-trip flight and accommodation plus meals.
The document states the trip will help lawmakers “better grasp the central authorities’ governance philosophy and development strategies.” It also ties the journey to Hong Kong’s work on aligning with China’s 15th five-year plan.
Lawmakers will inspect technology facilities and attend seminars during the week-long programme. The estimated breakdown includes HK$3,700 for flights and HK$11,000 for other costs.
