A 45-year-old Indiana man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting his neighbor during a confrontation in Gary. Authorities say the incident followed an earlier dispute involving a gun.
Juan Alberto Camarillo was arrested over the weekend and faces multiple charges including murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery in the death of 34-year-old Frank Haney.
Police responded to a reported shooting in the 5700 block of West 6th Avenue on Sunday, July 12. Officers found Camarillo being restrained by bystanders at the scene.
Investigators said Camarillo had been staying with a relative in the area. Haney had planned to report an earlier incident in which Camarillo allegedly pulled a gun on him. When confronted, Camarillo reportedly became angry and walked to the Haney home, where he opened fire.
Frank Haney was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at 8:27 p.m. His brother was wounded but survived. Camarillo also faces firearm enhancement counts and could receive more than 135 years in prison if convicted.
