My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James has announced his first solo album in eight years. Titled Wowed Out, the record arrives August 28 via ATO Records. He has also shared the lead single, Come Again.
The album draws from music James originally composed for film projects in the early 2010s. He worked on the material with composer Brian Reitzell. James described the song Come Again as emerging from a sense of discouragement about societal changes while seeking to focus on beauty in the world.
In a statement, James said the project brought him joy and comfort during its creation. He hopes it offers the same to listeners. Wowed Out follows his 2018 solo releases Uniform Distortion and Uniform Clarity.
James is scheduled to perform at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on July 10, 11, and 12 as part of concerts celebrating Wes Anderson films. He will also give a solo acoustic performance on August 28 at the Song Summit in Park City, Utah.
