LGBTIQ+ collectives denounced the forced internment of a trans woman in Tijuana by the Centro Cristiano de Rehabilitación Jireh, known as Patrulla Espiritual. The case led to an investigation for illegal deprivation of liberty and Karime's subsequent release through a judicial amparo.
In early May 2026, the group intercepted Karime in Tijuana and took her to the center in Ejido Matamoros. Organizations accused the center of carrying out efforts to correct gender identity, which violates state law in force since 2022. On May 13, the Fiscalía General de Baja California opened case NUC 2026-14466. The Comisión Estatal de los Derechos Humanos also launched an inquiry. On May 20, a judge ordered Karime's release after an amparo filed by activists. Her mother opposed the release. Paola Pereira, from Comité Orgullo Mexicali, noted that the centers lack regulation and training to attend to people of sexual diversity.
