Lucy Dacus releases new single 'Planting Tomatoes'

Singer-songwriter Lucy Dacus has released her first new music of 2026, the single 'Planting Tomatoes,' now available on streaming services. The track first appeared as a Record Store Day exclusive vinyl on April 18. Dacus accompanies the song with a lyric video she filmed in Tokyo.

Lucy Dacus dropped 'Planting Tomatoes' to streaming platforms on April 24, marking her first new release this year. The soft rock song features lyrics about living in the moment, including the lines: “You’ve gotta live the life you’re fighting for/ You’ve gotta live a life you would die for,” sung over fuzzy drums. Pitchfork noted the track's arrival alongside a lyric video Dacus shot herself in a Tokyo stationery store, edited by Mikayla LoBasso, with lyrics scrawled in various pens on paper scattered around the space. The video has a shopping list-inspired aesthetic. The song had a physical debut on April 18 as a Record Store Day exclusive 7-inch vinyl. Dacus first performed it live in February at Auckland Laneway Festival. Her most recent solo album, Forever Is a Feeling, came out in March 2025. As part of Boygenius with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker, she contributed to their 2023 debut album, which won three Grammys, including Best Rock Song for “Not Strong Enough.” Dacus has a summer tour planned to support Forever Is a Feeling, including special symphony performances: one with the Chicago Philharmonic at Millennium Park and another with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl. Cat Power will join the Hollywood Bowl show, performing songs from her 2006 album The Greatest, marking its 20th anniversary. The North American tour partners with the Ally Coalition, donating one dollar per ticket to organizations supporting young queer and trans people.
