Alex G has released two new tracks, “Good Green Friend” and “In the Yard,” directly to his personal YouTube channel. The uploads mark his first in six years, despite his deal with major label RCA. One song ties back to sessions for his 2025 album Headlights.
Alex G, the artist signed to RCA, uploaded “Good Green Friend” and “In the Yard” to his YouTube channel on April 29. The move revives a DIY approach unused since six years ago, with the songs remaining available online despite his major-label status. RCA appears supportive of the independent release, as first reported by Pitchfork. “Good Green Friend” originated during recording sessions for Headlights, his album from last year, but did not make the final tracklist. At the New York release show for Headlights, Alex G performed the song live, describing it as about a time he “got super high and had a great time” after a break from smoking weed. “In the Yard” lacks backstory, described as a loosie with no details on the upload or fan resources. Meanwhile, Alex G continues his 2026 tour, featuring a performance at Kilby Block Party and dates through May. He is also composing an original score for director Jane Schoenbrun’s upcoming film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which includes vocals from Blue Nile’s Paul Buchanan. This marks his third collaboration scoring Schoenbrun’s work, following We’re All Going to the World’s Fair and I Saw the TV Glow.
