A Missouri man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his wife dozens of times and abducting their young daughter. Neighbors heard the victim scream from her balcony before police arrived.
Munyaradzi Chiturumani, 36, was taken into custody in Caseyville, Illinois, after the incident at an apartment complex on Shadycreek Court in St. Louis County. Authorities said the attack occurred on Wednesday around 5 p.m., when neighbors called 911 after hearing the woman yell that she was going to die.
Police found the victim with about 30 stab wounds. She told officers that her husband had attacked her, threatened to kill their 6-year-old child, and then fled with the girl. Two bloody knives were later recovered from the residence.
The child was found safe in the city of St. Louis and described as being in relatively good condition. Chiturumani faces charges of first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
The woman was hospitalized and later listed in stable condition. Police noted that officers had responded to the apartment on prior occasions.
