Edward A. Millan-Volcan, 26, entered a guilty plea last week to felony murder in the first degree for the July 2025 killing of Sinay Leon-Montoya in Wichita. He also pleaded guilty to attempted murder in an attack on another woman during the same incident. The case involved the couple's two young children who were present.
Millan-Volcan admitted to stabbing Leon-Montoya more than 60 times with a three-inch scratch awl inside their apartment on the 6800 block of West Par Lane. The attack occurred after Leon-Montoya had called 911 to report a domestic disturbance but returned to the location due to concerns about one of her children. Police arrived to find Leon-Montoya dead from multiple puncture wounds to her chest, neck, arms, back and head. Germany Torres Figueroa, 26, a friend who tried to intervene, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The defendant was arrested at the scene without incident. Additional charges including kidnapping and child endangerment were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16 and faces a minimum of 38 3/4 years in prison.
