On Thursday afternoon, Avery Nissen, 21, from eastern Kansas, allegedly attacked the boat captain with a fillet knife aboard a fishing vessel conducting a three-hour snorkel tour off the coast of Kailua-Kona on Hawaii's Big Island. The captain suffered a stab wound to the lower abdomen and numerous cuts to the head and hands. He was taken to a hospital and remains in stable condition. Nissen faces charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault. He is held on $1,570,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Kona District Court on Monday.
