Ohio woman sentenced for beating friend's baby

An Ohio woman has been sentenced to at least three and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to beating a one-year-old girl while babysitting.

Amanda Leigh Greger, 38, received the sentence in May after pleading guilty on May 28 to one count of felonious assault and one count of tampering with evidence. Additional charges including child endangerment were dropped.

The incident occurred in November in Goshen Township near Cincinnati. Greger was watching the daughter of her friend Melissa Bilby during an overnight shift. When Bilby returned, she found Greger asleep in the room wearing a hooded sweatshirt covered in blood and vomit, with bloodstains throughout the room.

The baby suffered a brain bleed, blood seeping from her right eye, bruised lungs, and fluid around her heart and spine. She was admitted to intensive care, intubated, and placed on a ventilator while heavily sedated.

Greger did not speak at the sentencing hearing. A GoFundMe page started by the victim's aunt described the injuries and noted that Greger had been a trusted friend of the family.
