Papal Nuncio Charles Brown told nearly 4,000 Catholics that Jesus Christ is the true wealth of the Church and must be revealed through evangelization.
Brown spoke on Saturday at the 12th Philippine Conference on the New Evangelization, held at the Quadricentennial Pavilion of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila.
He drew on Gospel parables to argue that many view the Church only as a humanitarian group. “The mission of evangelization is to reveal that hidden treasure,” Brown said, referring to Christ’s presence, love, teaching and the life of grace.
Brown urged delegates to treat the poor, addicted and abandoned as “pearls of great price” and to back preaching with concrete charity. He called on them to act as missionary disciples beyond the event.
