President Gustavo Petro and President-elect Abelardo De La Espriella suspended the transition process after trading accusations of coup attempts.

De La Espriella suspended the transition, arguing that Petro rejects the election results and seeks to remain in power. The president-elect urged the armed forces to uphold their constitutional oath.
Petro called for civil resistance on July 20 against what he described as an illegitimate government. De La Espriella replied that this narrative serves as a cover for a coup attempt.
Both sides exchanged criticisms over threats and lack of respect during the transition ahead of the August 7 inauguration.
