Ruto government accused of continuing to defy court orders

President William Ruto promised to uphold the rule of law upon taking office in 2022, but judges are now pressuring government officials to obey court orders in several ongoing cases.

One case involves Health Minister Aden Duale and construction of an Ebola isolation center at Nanyuki military camp in Laikipia County. The court halted the project but the Katiba Institute claims construction continues.

Duale denied the claims and said the government respects court orders. Other cases involve construction in Imenti Forest in Meru County and payment of over Sh200 million to former soldiers.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and Speaker Moses Wetang’ula have also faced contempt claims in separate matters.
