Story of ants and prophet sulaiman in the quran

The Quran mentions ants in the story of Prophet Sulaiman AS. While traveling with a large army, the ants panicked and hid to avoid being trampled. This tale is recorded in Surah an-Naml verse 18.

Prophet Sulaiman AS was not only Allah's messenger but also king of Bani Israil. He was granted immense wealth, knowledge, and inspiration, making him a wise, intelligent leader who upheld justice.

Allah bestowed miracles upon him, including control over wind, sea, and animals. The son of Prophet Daud AS could travel by riding the wind and command jinn and birds, for instance in battles.

One day, Prophet Sulaiman AS journeyed to his domain with a vast army of humans, jinn, and birds. He organized the troops: the front guarded boundaries, the rear ensured no one lagged behind.

Midway, they entered a valley full of ant nests. Seeing the massive force, the ants feared being crushed. The queen ant, said to be named Jirsan, ordered the ants into their holes.

This story appears in the Quran, Surah an-Naml verse 18: "O ants, enter your dwellings, lest Sulaiman and his soldiers crush you while they perceive not."

The tale highlights Prophet Sulaiman AS's ability to understand animal languages, as granted by Allah.

A new study reveals that some ant species achieve evolutionary success by investing less in individual worker protection, allowing for larger colonies. Published on December 19, 2025, in Science Advances, the research analyzed over 500 ant species and links thinner cuticles to bigger societies and higher diversification rates. This strategy echoes broader patterns in social evolution, from insects to potentially human parallels.

Researchers have used a synchrotron particle accelerator, robotics, and AI to create high-resolution 3D models of ants from 800 species. The project scanned 2,000 specimens in just one week, far faster than traditional methods. This effort, called Antscan, aims to build a digital library of insect biodiversity.

Fungus-farming ants have developed a way to capture atmospheric carbon dioxide and incorporate it into their exoskeletons as dolomite, a mineral that strengthens their armour and regulates nest air quality. This process, observed in species from Central and South America, occurs without the need for high temperatures or pressures that challenge lab synthesis. Researchers suggest it could inspire human carbon capture techniques.

The fasting month of Ramadan is drawing to a close, but before that, Muslims observe the holy 'Night of Power' (Laylat al-Qadr). Many believers devote the last ten nights to intense prayers to ensure they do not miss this special time.
