Wisconsin mother charged in death of 3-month-old son

Tashae Goodman, 31, faces reckless homicide charges after her infant son died from mixed drug toxicity in March. Authorities say the baby had fentanyl and other substances in his system, and drugs were also found in his bottle.

A Wisconsin mother has been charged with reckless homicide in the death of her 3-month-old son. Tashae Goodman, 31, was arrested on Sunday after an investigation into the death of her baby on March 22. She told police she had fallen asleep on the couch with the infant, who was later found wedged between the cushions and not breathing. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 4:29 a.m., according to a criminal complaint reviewed by Law&Crime. An autopsy showed no signs of trauma or illness, but toxicology results later revealed the baby had fentanyl, xylazine, heroin, and oxycodone in his system. Investigators determined the cause of death to be mixed drug toxicity and ruled the manner a homicide. Goodman allegedly explained the presence of drugs in the baby's bottle as residue from poor housekeeping and claimed the substances came from her pregnancy, a statement police said defied logic and science. She is currently held at the Milwaukee County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
