The African Union has announced full support for diplomatic efforts to achieve sustainable peace and stability in the Red Sea region.
African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmud Ali Yusuf stated in a release that attacks on commercial ships along the strategic Red Sea waterway pose a major threat to the region.
The chairperson strongly condemned attacks on oil tankers by Houthis after they declared a maritime blockade on the Saudi Arabian government.
Such attacks endanger the global supply chain, oil security and the economic interests of African countries, he said. He called for an end to similar attacks and respect for international laws.
