Capital International Airport marked a new milestone on Sunday with the departure of Air Cairo's first flight to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, bolstering its role as a strategic hub in Egypt's civil aviation network. The launch forms part of Egypt's state strategy to optimize the use of newly developed airports and strengthen integration within the national air transport system.
Air Cairo, the Ministry of Civil Aviation's low-cost carrier, operated the inaugural flight from Capital International Airport to Jeddah using an Airbus A320 aircraft with 160 passengers. This launch heralds the beginning of regular services from the airport, featuring six weekly flights to the Saudi city.
The initiative seeks to boost air traffic to and from the New Administrative Capital while alleviating operational strain on primary hubs like Cairo International Airport. It promotes more efficient capacity utilization, particularly during peak seasons, and expands operating bases for Egyptian airlines.
The new route capitalizes on Capital International Airport's advanced infrastructure, high operational readiness, and strategic positioning to serve the New Administrative Capital and surrounding governorates, thereby enhancing passenger accessibility and overall efficiency.
Operated in partnership with Air Cairo under an integrated framework that connects modern airport capabilities with airline growth plans, the service offers affordable travel options and helps increase inbound and outbound air traffic along with tourism to and from Egypt.
Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny commented: "Operating Air Cairo flights from Capital International Airport aligns with the state's strategy to fully capitalize on modern airport infrastructure and facilitate travel movement." He added that the step reflects the quality of services and operational readiness of Egyptian airports, while supporting the air transport system and achieving sustainable operations.
To celebrate, the airport's Public Relations Department arranged a special welcome for inaugural flight passengers, including streamlined procedures, guidance, and on-ground assistance within the terminal.
