Al-Sisi oversees swearing-in of new ministers after cabinet reshuffle

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi oversaw the swearing-in of a deputy prime minister, several ministers, and deputy ministers on Wednesday following a cabinet reshuffle, according to a presidential statement. The reshuffle included the appointment of Hussein Eissa as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and several ministers in key portfolios, alongside the abolition of the Ministry of Public Business Sector.

Egypt's House of Representatives approved the cabinet overhaul on Tuesday during an emergency session after receiving a communication from President Al-Sisi. The changes included the appointment of 14 new ministers across key portfolios and the reinstatement of the Ministry of Information.

Key appointments include: Hussein Eissa as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs; Ashraf Mansour as Minister of Defence and Military Production; Khaled Abdel Ghaffar as Minister of Health; Kamel Al-Wazir as Minister of Transport; Manal Awad as Minister of Local Development and Environment; Badr Abdelatty as Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Expatriates; Randa El-Menshawy as Minister of Housing; Raafat Hindi as Minister of Communications; Abdelaziz Konsowa as Minister of Higher Education; Mohamed Farid as Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; and Diaa Rashwan as Minister of State for Information.

Following the ceremony, Al-Sisi met with the newly appointed officials, stressing the need to enhance institutional efficiency, strengthen merit-based performance standards, and invest in the development of human capital. He also underlined the role of media in raising public awareness, countering misinformation, and supporting reform efforts in the public interest.

In a related development, Hashem El Sayed, head of the government's state-owned enterprises unit, stated that Egypt is preparing 60 state-owned companies for transfer to the Sovereign Fund of Egypt or listing on the stock exchange, with 40 for the fund and 20 for the market. The announcement came during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Hussein Eissa to discuss economic priorities, directing acceleration of implementation and assigning Issa responsibility for restructuring following the ministry's abolition.
