Playwright Aleshea Harris has written and directed a film adaptation of her play Is God Is, which was released on May 15. The story centers on twin sisters seeking revenge after surviving a brutal attack by their father.
Harris, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, described the experience as a baptism by fire. She said friends encouraged her to step behind the camera after the play premiered Off Broadway in 2018 to strong reviews. The film stars Kara Young as Racine and Mallori Johnson as Anaia, with Vivica A. Fox playing their mother Ruby, also called God.
