Alfred Barklund leaves AIK for Björklöven ahead of SHL return

Defenseman Alfred Barklund has transferred from AIK to Björklöven just days before the SHL signing deadline. The move was confirmed on Monday.

The 26-year-old Barklund signed with Björklöven after recently extending his contract with AIK until 2027. He cited the opportunity to play in the SHL as the decisive factor.

"It was harder than one might think," Barklund told Expressen. "I think AIK has a good chance of winning something big this year, so that was definitely something I needed to consider."

Björklöven's sports director Per Kenttä praised Barklund's defensive skills and physical play. AIK will receive compensation of around 600,000 kronor under the league agreement.

SHL clubs can sign contracted players from HockeyAllsvenskan until June 24.
