American Football dropped 'No Feeling' on April 8, marking another preview from '(LP4)', their first full-length album in seven years. The song blends ethereal synths, melodic guitar riffs, and harmonized vocals building to a chorus of “No feeling/ No pain/ No one to blame/ Forever awaits/ It’s just an eternal blank page.” Produced by Sonny DiPerri, it pairs singer Mike Kinsella with Yates in a duet that highlights the Turnstile frontman's distinctive voice. Kinsella described the collaboration's origin: “Brendan came into the studio to sing along to a ‘gang vocal’ call-and-response part I’d written for the chorus of No Feeling.” Initially planned as a hidden easter egg among multiple voices, Yates requested a higher harmony. “As soon as he started singing it, all of our jaws dropped, and we all were looking at each other like ‘Oh shit! That’s the dude from Turnstile!’” Kinsella said. “His voice is so singular, and once he sang the part in his range, it was clear that the part now belonged to him and him alone.” The accompanying music video depicts ghost-like creatures celebrating aboard a sunken ship before a submarine disrupts their underwater haven. Directors Cady Buche and Travis Barron of Unlimited Time Only explained their vision: “When we listened to ‘No Feeling’ for the first time, we thought a lot about mysterious places like outer space and the bottom of the ocean—they’re beautiful and they also kind of freak you out.” They flipped the narrative of inevitability into a thriving ghostly afterlife under threat. '(LP4)' continues American Football's tradition of self-titled albums, succeeding 'LP3' from 2019 and the 2021 standalone 'Rare Symmetry'. The band, Midwest emo pioneers, recently reissued their debut for its 25th anniversary and plan a 2026 tour starting in the US in May.
