Benfica has confirmed that Jose Mourinho will leave the club to become manager of Real Madrid for a second time. The Portuguese club has also announced Marco Silva as his replacement.
Benfica announced on Tuesday that it had informed regulators of Real Madrid's formal intention to hire Mourinho for 15 million euros. The 63-year-old coach has given his agreement to the move. Mourinho is set to return to the Bernabeu 13 years after his first spell, which ended in 2013. Real Madrid parted ways with interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa earlier the same day. Benfica moved quickly to appoint Silva on a two-year contract that can be extended until 2029. The former Fulham manager previously worked at Sporting CP and several English clubs including Hull, Watford and Everton. Real Madrid has not yet made a formal announcement of Mourinho's appointment.
