Portugal have named Jorge Jesus as their new coach after Roberto Martinez resigned following the national team's exit from the 2026 World Cup.
The Portuguese Football Federation announced the appointment on Friday. Martinez ended his tenure after Portugal finished second in Group K behind Colombia, advanced past Croatia in the round of 32 and then lost to Spain.
Jesus previously managed Benfica, Sporting CP and Al-Nassr, where he worked with Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo scored three goals at the tournament and had said the 2026 World Cup would be his last with the national team.
Jesus will take charge of Portugal's opening UEFA Nations League defence against Wales on September 24. It remains unclear whether the 41-year-old Ronaldo will feature in future matches for his country.
