British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is scheduled to meet Chinese officials in Beijing this week amid signs of improving ties between the two nations.
The British government announced on Sunday that Cooper will meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Vice-President Han Zheng on Tuesday. Discussions are set to cover the Strait of Hormuz, the Russia-Ukraine war and the Ebola outbreak in Africa.
Beijing confirmed the visit will run from Monday to Wednesday. Cooper is then expected to travel to the tech hub of Shenzhen on Wednesday before heading to India on Thursday.
The announcement follows recent meetings between delegations from both countries at the Shangri-La Dialogue. During the trip, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for a “new chapter” in ties, with both sides vowing to deepen dialogue and cooperation.
