A personnel change is upcoming in a key department at the Bundesbank in Frankfurt. Burkhard Balz, who has held the post for eight years, will leave the institution in August. According to insiders, he decided some time ago not to seek another term and to take up a new role.
The Greens secured the right to propose a successor during coalition negotiations with the CDU. Danyal Bayaz, finance minister of Baden-Württemberg, will oversee the appointment. Sources close to Bayaz say the process is being handled without time pressure.
Names of promising candidates are already circulating in financial circles. Some had previously speculated about an extension for the former CDU European politician, who is regarded as competent and well connected.
