Catalan police are investigating the death of Mango founder Isak Andic as a possible homicide, focusing on his eldest son, Jonathan Andic. The case, initially archived as an accident, was reopened in March 2025 by a Martorell judge. The family expresses confidence in Jonathan's innocence as police analyze his mobile phone.
Isak Andic, founder of the fashion chain Mango, died on December 14, 2024, during a hike in the Montserrat mountain range in Collbató, near Barcelona. Initial reports stated the businessman fell from a great height after slipping on a low-risk path, accompanied only by his son Jonathan. Jonathan called 112 shortly before 1:00 p.m., but emergency services, including Catalan police, firefighters, and mountain units, could not save his life.
Initially, the Martorell Court of First Instance and Instruction No. 5 provisionally archived the case due to statute of limitations. However, in March 2025, the judge reopened it after receiving police reports highlighting suspicious circumstances, such as contradictions in Jonathan's two statements and mobile triangulation to verify exact positions. The investigation, under secrecy of summary, now considers homicide as a hypothesis.
Last month, the judge formally charged Jonathan Andic, and the Mossos requested and are meticulously analyzing his mobile phone. Ten months after the incident, no conclusive evidence against him has been found. The Andic family, through a spokesperson, stated: «The Andic family has not made nor will make comments in all these months about Isak Andic's death. That said, it wants to show respect for the proceedings carried out and will continue collaborating as until now with the competent authorities. It is also confident that this process will end as soon as possible and Jonathan Andic's innocence will be proven». The inquiries continue focusing on the terrain and the suspect's statements.
