Cemex presents results of its rural roads strategy in Colombia

Cemex has revealed the achievements of its Vías Rurales initiative, launched in 2023 to improve road infrastructure in remote areas of the country. The program has reached 164 municipalities in 15 departments, directly benefiting over 33,000 people by facilitating access to health, education, and commerce.

The Mexican cement company Cemex presented a detailed balance of its Vías Rurales strategy, a private initiative started in 2023 aimed at enhancing tertiary road infrastructure in Colombia. It has positively impacted connectivity and economic development in historically isolated regions, covering 164 municipalities across 15 departments.

According to the company, the program has directly benefited more than 33,000 people, improving their access to essential services such as health, education, and commercial opportunities. In terms of concrete works, over 111 kilometers of placa huella have been built and more than 30,000 tons of cement supplied, strengthening mobility in areas with chronic infrastructure limitations.

"Our rural roads strategy is the result, on one hand, of understanding the needs of remote communities requiring access to health, education, and commercial opportunities; and on the other, of our commitment as a company to build a better future," stated Alejandro Ramírez, president of Cemex for Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.

The execution model integrates technical support, specialized logistics, and community participation. Cemex partners with a network of nearly 250 Construrama hardware stores and allies to ensure material supply and advice in remote territories. Additionally, the program coordinates with Local Action Committees and authorities, generating employment and bolstering the social fabric.

The works adhere to Invías technical standards and incorporate sustainable construction methods to minimize environmental impact and maintenance costs.
