Centerpartiet proposes selling Sveaskog forests to private individuals

Centerpartiet proposes selling 2.7 million hectares of productive forest land from state-owned Sveaskog to private individuals.

The party wants to use the proceeds for investments in agriculture transition and stronger food production. The remaining land, totaling around 4 million hectares, is proposed to be placed in a foundation for nature conservation.

Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist stressed that private forest ownership especially in northern Sweden could become much stronger.

The proposal targets only private individuals and not companies.

The decision stems from estimated cancellation costs of 3.8 to 4.2 billion kronor. Oppositionsråd Ehsan Nasari (C) stated that scrapping the whole project is no longer economically defensible.
