Politicians reject expanded protection for Sälen mountain areas

Top municipal politicians have halted plans to expand protected areas on the mountain edges in Sälenfjällen despite petitions from hundreds of residents.

Municipal officials had proposed expanding protected zones to shield the bare mountain edges from new construction. Top politicians decided against the expansion.

Municipal councilor Mikael Östling (M) stated that proceeding would be wrong, citing record interest in the land-use planning process for the coming years.

Hundreds of residents had submitted written appeals for the protection measures during the ongoing work on a new comprehensive plan for Sälenfjällen.
