Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla thanked China for its unwavering support against the US blockade. China rejected Washington's coercive tactics to pressure other countries into backing the policy against the island. A Venezuelan solidarity movement denounced the pressures as political and economic blackmail ahead of the UN vote.
Yesterday, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, a member of the Political Bureau and Cuba's Foreign Minister, expressed gratitude to China for its support in the face of US sanctions and genocidal policy against the Caribbean nation. On his X account, he wrote: "We thank China for its unwavering support in the face of the U.S. blockade, which is suffocating the Cuban people and their economy. We know we can count on friends like you to continue denouncing this genocidal policy".
Previously, China had rejected the United States' coercive tactics and pressure on other nations. Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun, responding to a question from Prensa Latina, said that Washington not only fails to reflect on its actions but also intensifies its policy of coercion, which violates international law, the basic principles of international relations, and humanitarian law. China strongly opposes the US blockade and has voted in favor of the Cuban resolution in the United Nations General Assembly since 1992.
Guo reiterated China's support for the Cuban people's right to choose their own path of development, defend their sovereignty, and reject external interference. He urged Washington to take concrete measures to improve its relations with Havana and contribute to peace and stability in the region.
For its part, the Venezuela-Cuba National Movement of Friendship and Mutual Solidarity strongly rejected what it called pressure and fallacious arguments from the US State Department on the issue of the blockade of the island. A statement from the solidarity group denounced that these are exercised in a "cynical and recurrent manner," using tactics that border on "political and economic blackmail." It emphasized that they are attempting to induce sovereign nations to betray their history and conscience, seeking to sway the vote at the UN against the criminal blockade of Cuba, which will take place on October 28th and 29th.
