The Seoul Central District Court approved on February 11, 2026, the live broadcast of former President Yoon Suk Yeol's sentencing trial on insurrection charges, set for 3 p.m. on February 19. Broadcasters' requests were granted, with court equipment providing footage, though potential technical delays were noted.
This comes amid a series of trials over Yoon's short-lived martial law declaration on December 3, 2024, which prosecutors say involved conspiring with aides like former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun to deploy troops, block the National Assembly, and target political leaders—without a war or equivalent emergency.
Special counsel Cho Eun-suk's team previously sought the death penalty for Yoon as the ringleader aiming to retain power. The same hearing will cover verdicts for Kim, former Defense Intelligence Command chief Noh Sang-won, former Korean National Police Agency chief Cho Ji-ho, and former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency chief Kim Bong-sik.
It marks the second live-broadcast sentencing for Yoon, after his January 16 ruling of five years for obstructing detention. Earlier, on January 21, the court sentenced former PM Han Duck-soo on related abetment charges.
