Cybertruck owner questions heavy use of Tesla's FSD software

Scott Jamieson, a Tesla Cybertruck owner from Massachusetts, expressed surprise at fellow owners driving almost entirely with Full Self-Driving (FSD) software. He shared his thoughts in a Facebook group, noting he prefers a mix of manual and autonomous driving. Other owners explained their high FSD usage for safety, relaxation, and fatigue reduction.

In a post on the Cybertruck Owners Only Facebook group, Scott Jamieson voiced curiosity about owners who rely on Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software for nearly all their miles. Tesla's recent software update, version 14.2, introduced metrics showing the percentage of miles driven manually versus with FSD, prompting owners to share their stats—some reporting 95-100% FSD use over hundreds or thousands of miles.

Jamieson, who enjoys both FSD and manual driving, wrote: “Genuine question, and not a critique: How do some of you drive 100% on FSD? What goes through your mind? What's your use-case scenario? With 14.2 showing the new metrics, I've seen several users share their stats with hundreds and thousands of miles at 95-100% FSD use. As someone who loves FSD but also enjoys driving, I use it only part of the time, including a mix of long highway commutes and city driving. The truck drives amazingly—better than other Teslas. I’m curious about what motivates those on the other end of the spectrum.”

Responses highlighted practical benefits. Jennifer Kozlik, who uses FSD 95% of the time, said: “I love driving. I built and raced cars with my dad and grandpa growing up. But now I’m older. I’d prefer the car to watch out for reckless drivers while I relax with my kids. Safety is really important... My husband is nearly 100%. He commutes on the freeway three days a week and prefers to let the car do the driving. On driving vacations? We get to enjoy the scenery while the car handles the road.”

Barry Jordan, middle-aged and dealing with suburban traffic, noted: “Just a personal preference. I couldn't care less about the “fun” of driving most of the time... I sit at a desk all day with my hands on a keyboard. I just want to rest my arms and shoulders whenever I can completely. FSD improves my posture and reduces back/neck tension in a good way.”

Al Olsen, 75 years old, uses FSD daily: “I use FSD every day on every drive. I am in awe of its capabilities and enjoy supervising from a higher level... No FSD would be a deal breaker, and as a 75-year-old, the car drives better than I do.”

John Collins shared: “I use FSD more and more because it’s more relaxing. I’ve used FSD to drive to St. Augustine, Florida, and Breckenridge, Colorado, from Galveston. I enjoy driving, but long, monotonous rides tire me out, so it’s good to have the assistance.” Rob Hubbard added: “I drive a box truck for a living, so I definitely let my Cybertruck drive as much as possible. I drive enough on the clock.”

The discussion, published on November 30, 2025, reveals a common theme among owners: FSD helps reduce fatigue and allows relaxation during drives.
