Three candidates backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won Democratic primaries for U.S. House seats this week. Two defeated incumbents. Darializa Avila Chevalier secured the nomination in the 13th district.
The victories occurred on Tuesday and were supported by the Democratic Socialists of America. Avila Chevalier is a member of the group.
Moderate Democrats expressed concerns. Former Biden adviser Meghan Hays said party leaders should stand up to the candidates. Strategist James Carville stated he does not want to share a party with Avila Chevalier.
Bill Maher said his vote would be in play if the party moves toward socialism. Sara Haines warned the positions could benefit Republicans in midterms.
Fifteen Democratic House members and candidates signed the Promise to America pledge supporting capitalism.
