The Seoul city government said Friday that emergency demolition work on the upper structure of the Seosomun Overpass was completed at 9:40 p.m.

The work finished some 79 hours after a section collapsed Tuesday during a safety inspection, killing three people and injuring three others. The city government had resumed demolition after the labor ministry approved the plan Thursday evening.

Built in 1966, the overpass had been undergoing demolition since August last year over safety concerns and was expected to be torn down by next month. Gyeongui Line railway service suspended due to the accident is set to resume over the weekend.

On Friday police raided the Seoul city government offices and those of an engineering company to investigate the cause. The Korea Railroad Corp. said it plans to resume all rail services, including KTX trains, normally starting Sunday.
