Deputy prime minister Temesgen Tiruneh inaugurates salt and fodder factory in Afar

Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh has inaugurated a modern salt and fodder production factory in Afar region's Zone 1, Assayita woreda. The facility, built on 2,540 hectares, utilizes Awash River water. It creates 1,000 jobs and supports livestock development.

On March 28, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh inaugurated the modern salt and fodder production factory in Assayita woreda, Afar region Zone 1.

Constructed by Livestock PELC company on 2,540 hectares using Awash River water, the factory produces an average of 36 tons of fodder per hectare. Salt production supports fodder management supplied to local and export markets. Fodder development incorporates salt types that enhance livestock water productivity.

The facility has created 1,000 jobs. Officials noted it brings significant benefits to local livestock wealth development and contributes to the national fodder initiative against shortages.
