Digital wallets may supplant traditional bank accounts for younger users

Finance executives predict that digital-native generations will rely on wallets holding stablecoins and tokenized assets rather than opening conventional bank accounts.

Adrian Cachinero, co-founder of Steakhouse Financial, which manages more than $4 billion in decentralized vaults, said his 18-month-old daughter might never need a bank account.

Cachinero told CoinDesk in London that products are being built for a generation that views the internet as central to financial services. He noted that stablecoin transfers settle quickly and can be tracked on blockchains.

Naveen Mallela of Standard Chartered described a future where a single wallet holds cash, tokenized deposits from multiple banks, stablecoins and other assets. He expects stablecoins to handle more retail payments while tokenized deposits serve wholesale flows.

Shunyet Jan of Binance observed younger users in emerging markets and said the exchange aims to expand into payments via a super app. Other executives noted that banks and crypto firms are already blurring lines by offering overlapping services.
