Egypt's Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched the country's first national feasibility study for Sustainable Aviation Fuel production and use in collaboration with ICAO and the European Union.
Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El Hefny opened a two-day workshop to launch the project under the ACT-SAF programme. The project aims to establish a national roadmap to adhere to the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation and ICAO’s target of net-zero carbon emissions in international aviation by 2050.
ICAO experts will remain in Egypt for 10 days to collect and analyse data with national authorities. El Hefny stated that the feasibility study aims to build a national industry, diversify aviation energy sources, and lower carbon emissions.
Egypt submitted its second national action plan to ICAO in 2025. The plan included 25 measures that resulted in Cairo International and Hurghada International airports receiving the Airports Council International Environment and Sustainability Award for 2025.
