Councillor Enma López has announced her intention to stand in the PSOE primaries to lead the party's municipal ticket in Madrid. She did so in an interview published Thursday in El País.
Socialist councillor and current deputy spokesperson Enma López explained that she has received requests to take the step for four years. “Of course it is possible to govern Madrid, and we are going to do it with an attractive project,” she stated in the interview.
López will likely compete with Reyes Maroto, the current PSOE municipal spokesperson, who has already expressed her desire to be the candidate in the May 2027 elections. Maroto was the party’s candidate in 2023, when it secured 11 councillors.
The PSOE plans to approve this weekend in its Federal Committee the calendar of primaries to select municipal and regional candidates. From then on, the Madrid federation may call the internal votes.
