Ethiopia and UAE agree to strengthen anti-terrorism cooperation

Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to enhance their cooperation in counter-terrorism efforts. The meeting occurred in Addis Ababa on Megabit 28, 2018 EC, between Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker and UAE Special Envoy for Counter-Terrorism Maqsud Kruz.

Ethiopian Ambassador to the UAE, Dr. Jemal Beker, met with UAE Special Envoy for Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Extremism Maqsud Kruz in Addis Ababa.

Dr. Jemal expressed Ethiopia's full partnership with the UAE and its firm stance against terrorism. He highlighted Ethiopia's role as a pillar of peace and security in the Horn of Africa, including in counter-terrorism operations, border security, and future peace initiatives.

Maqsud Kruz described Ethiopia and the Emirates as strategic partners. He noted that Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed's recent visit to the UAE was historic and landmark. The UAE side provided a briefing on their overall efforts against extremism and upcoming international initiatives.

Both sides agreed to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation in counter-terrorism and counter-extremism.
