Finance minister Purbaya underpaid taxes by Rp50 million in SPT filing

Indonesia's Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa disclosed underpaying about Rp50 million in his personal annual income tax return. He pointed out glitches in the Coretax system and noted that such shortfalls are common for taxpayers with multiple income sources.

Jakarta – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has completed filing his personal annual income tax return (SPT PPh). During the process, he discovered an underpayment of about Rp50 million, which he estimated as “Rp50 juta kayaknya.” Purbaya explained that such shortfalls are typical for individuals with multiple income sources, as withholdings from each do not always cover the full liability. “Kalau kerja di banyak tempat, hampir pasti kurang bayar loh,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. He contrasted this with his time as Chairman of the Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), when he never underpaid due to a single income source. In 2025, his income came from LPS and the Finance Ministry. Assisted by tax officers rather than filing independently, Purbaya criticized the system for occasionally going “muter-muter.” He urged ongoing improvements to the Coretax software to make compliance easier, especially near deadlines. On the same day, the government extended the personal taxpayer filing deadline to April 30, 2026, from March 31, due to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
