A 60-year-old Florida resident faces two counts of aggravated assault after allegedly confronting two teenagers with a meat cleaver and kitchen knife over noise from a go-kart.
Richard Carter of Clermont approached the victims on June 8 after they revved the engine of a go-kart in a neighborhood garage. Deputies from the Lake County Sheriff's Office responded shortly after 8 p.m. to reports of a dispute involving a knife.
According to investigators, Carter threw a lawn chair and told one teen to leave the area. He then retrieved the weapons from his home and threatened to "bash your head in," prompting the victims to flee. One teen later told his mother he could "barely speak" due to fear.
Body camera footage showed Carter admitting he grabbed the knives out of anger but claiming he "didn't do anything." Deputies noted he could have filed a noise complaint instead. Carter bonded out of the Lake County Jail, with his next court date set for July 6.
