Former striker Jô was arrested in the early hours of Sunday, June 14, 2026, in Belo Horizonte over child support debt exceeding R$145,000. It marks the player's fifth detention for the same reason.
The arrest took place at a nightclub in the Castelo neighborhood of the Pampulha region after officers executed a warrant issued by the 3rd Family and Succession Court of the Itaquera Regional Forum in São Paulo.
Jô’s representatives released a statement saying he faces financial instability and is seeking an agreement with the child’s mother. The note stressed that the default does not stem from disregard for paternal duties and that Jô remains available to the courts.
The 39-year-old built a notable career at Corinthians, Manchester City and other clubs, and represented Brazil at the 2014 World Cup. Prior detentions occurred in 2024, 2025 and November 2025.
