Four suspects arrested in Kisumu for stealing governor Barasa's guard pistol

Police in Kisumu have arrested four suspects and recovered a pistol stolen from a guard of Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa during Raila Odinga's funeral. The arrests followed a public tip-off, and the suspects face court charges. The pistol was found with 14 bullets.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) released yesterday, police officers raided a house in the Manyatta “B” neighborhood in the Mbeme area of Kisumu East sub-county, arresting four suspects. They were identified as Timothy Odhiambo, David Beckham Odhiambo, Tony Blair Omondi, and Harun Ibrahim.

After interrogation, the suspects led officers to other hideouts where a Jericho-model pistol loaded with 14 bullets was recovered. “Investigations have confirmed that the recovered pistol is the one stolen from an officer during the funeral of Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga on October 19, 2025, in Bondo, Siaya County. The suspects are in custody pending arraignment in court to answer charges,” the DCI stated on its X account.

The pistol was taken from a GSU officer, one of Governor Barasa's guards, during the funeral at the grounds of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) in Bondo. The officer vanished into the large crowd of attendees while leaving with his colleagues and boss. Reports indicated that thugs robbed several people of their belongings during and after the event, which drew mourners from across Kenya and abroad.
