Leaders of the Ethiopian Bulk Fuel Transport Owners' Association raised concerns over outdated tariffs and truck seizures at a media briefing on July 25, 2026.
At the briefing held at Ghion Hotel on Ras Desta Damtew St., association leaders highlighted two main issues. Transport tariffs have not kept pace with rising fuel, spare-part and maintenance costs. They also protested the impounding of trucks over alleged diversion.
The leaders alleged that four vehicles were seized even though the fuel had been legally imported through authorised channels and taxes had been paid. One case involved a fuel tanker carrying tens of thousands of litres that was confiscated after its driver allegedly siphoned four litres.
The event puts fuel carriers and regulators at legal odds, according to the association's statements at the briefing.
