Gabriel Garzón, voice of Topo Gigio, dies at 57

Mexican voice actor and comedian Gabriel Garzón, famous for voicing Topo Gigio since 1994, has died at age 57, as confirmed by colleague Jorge Falcón on social media. Garzón had faced health challenges in recent years, including a 2016 accident that led to the amputation of a leg. No official details on the cause of death have been disclosed.

Gabriel Ernesto Garzón Lozano was born on November 27, 1968, in Mexico City and built a diverse career as a voice actor, comedian, announcer, writer, producer, and puppeteer. Since 1994, he served as the official voice of Topo Gigio, the iconic Italian cartoon mouse from children's television, known for phrases like “to bed, to bed”. He appeared in shows such as Una sonrisa con Cepillín, La casa de la risa, and El espacio del tío Gamboín, and collaborated with producer Silvia Roche on series like Burbujas.

In 2016, while recording a show with Lagrimita and Costel, he suffered a workplace accident: a xerographic machine fell on his leg, causing severe damage. In a 2019 interview with ENSerio, he recounted: “I had an accident (...) It shredded my leg. There were 11 operations until nothing more could be done”. This led to the amputation of the limb. He received support from colleagues like Rafael Inclán, Luis de Alba, and Adal Ramones, who organized the Pata… tón event to cover medical and rehabilitation costs. Jorge Falcón, in particular, funded his prosthesis during a dinner, fulfilling what Garzón called “my lucky leg”.

In December 2025, on the 9th of that month, Falcón and other colleagues requested blood donors for Garzón on social media, without specifying the medical condition. A month later, on January 25, 2026, Falcón announced his death on Instagram: “Today I lost another friend and a great artist. May God hold you in a good place and shelter you with his eternal light. Rest in peace, dear friend”. So far, no official information on the cause of death has been released, but his career leaves a lasting legacy in Mexican children's entertainment.
